    秋高气爽的10月底,我在成均馆大学接待了三位特别的客人。那是来自台湾的蔡氏三兄妹。他们为了推广儿童读经,毅然辞去原有的工作而办起幼儿园来。蔡氏三兄妹到韩国考察,希望将来在本地推广读经教育,而当他们得知成均馆是韩国儒林的最高领导机构后,便委托一名相识的韩国友人找我为他们介绍成均馆大学。

     

    在学校大门前集合后,我们先到正门附近的儒林会馆去,然后再进入明伦堂和养贤斋参观。平时大门深锁的大成殿,这一天竟然因为维修工程而敞开大门,三兄妹都说是孔老夫子显灵,在大成殿前合影留念后赶紧转身向孔夫子深深一鞠躬。

     

    从文庙出来后,我领着他们到退溪人文馆四楼的儒学、东洋学部参观。这一路上虽然大多由我来讲解校史及办学特色,但三位客人也不时给我介绍他们的读经理念。我是很赞成背诵经典的,但我非常反对那种“不求甚解”式的读经教育。记得在马大中文系念书时,来自北大的客座教授就曾提到“盲目”地背诵经典是很不可取的。古人的思想里既有精华也有糟粕,应“批判地继承”,不能因为是“圣贤”说过的话就不加分辨地吸收。

     

    当我们来到书艺研究所前面的走廊,看见朝鲜时代著名书法家秋史金正喜的作品“天下一等人忠孝,世间两件事耕读”时,蔡大哥突然冒出一句“只有韩国人才会这么写,我们的文言文里没有这种语法”。我不禁眉头一皱,回答说:“这种结构很常见啊!”蔡大哥仍坚持己见,认为那是“韩国式”的汉文。其实中国很多地方都能找到“一等人忠臣孝子,两件事耕田读书”之类的对联,这怎么会是朝鲜人独创的呢?

     

    这样的误解跟“不求甚解式”的读经教育未必有关,但如果背诵经典时也能系统地讲解古代汉语知识,而不是光凭直觉来理解,也许就能避免这种“误读”了。
