    國際化 국제화는 개뿔

    前天晚上打开邮箱,发现有好几封从校内寄来的问卷调查邮件。那是一份有关学校未来发展愿景的问卷,我本来不太想填写的,但想到其中可能会提及我所关心的“国际化”问题, 于是便打开邮件,一一作答。

     

     

     

    韩国各名牌大学近几年来可说是投入全副精力在搞所谓的“国际化”事业,我校自然也不例外。从此次调查所设的问题看来,校方对“国际化”的认知无非就是提高外籍教授比例、增收外籍生、增设以英语教授的课程等等。当然,提升研究水平、交出“能与世界接轨”的研究成果也是校方念兹在兹想要完成的“伟业”。

     

     

     

    增聘外籍教授、提高研究水平,这些我都十分赞成,但对于通过增设以英语教授的科目(注意!不是“英语课”)和增收外籍生来促进“国际化”的构想,我却认为那是愚不可及的。提高英语水平本为英语教学的任务,让工商管理系或工程学院的教授以英语授课,想借此提高学生的英语水平,这跟东南亚某国英文教数理的逻辑是一样滑稽可笑的。在一次外籍教授会议上,我就亲耳听见来自英国的物理系教授向教务处长进言,希望校方不要强迫韩籍教授以英语授课,因为物理教授的任务是传授物理知识,不是教授英语,让本国教师勉强用英语上课,那只会“打造出”全世界最差的物理系。

     

     

     

    增收外籍生的问题也一样。一些大学管理层有一种“留学生越多就等于越国际化”的迷思,为外籍生广开方便之门,如此一来便不得不降低招生门槛(因为没有那么多“外国精英”到韩国来留学),结果造成外籍生素质参差不齐,久而久之必会砸烂自家招牌。

     

     

     

    在问卷调查的最后一项栏目里,我是这么写的:“国际化的关键在于突显自己的特色。对人文科系舍不得投资、不重视发展基础学科研究,却妄想以增设英语授课科目、多招外籍生来促进国际化,那是徒劳无功。注:我是外国留学生。”
